US Congressman & Kennedy Agyapong lock horns
A United States of America Congressman, Henry Calvin Hanks Johnson, and Ghana’s Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong have once again locked horns over the gruesome murder of an investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein Suale.
The Congress representative for Georgia has given the signal that Mr. Agyapong has whetted his appetite to call for fresh investigations into the murder of the journalist that the Ghanaian MP is believed to have played a role in.
Mr. Johnson, who in 2019 insisted that the US sanctioned Mr. Agyapong over the death of Ahmed Suale, yesterday in an email purportedly addressed to social media icon and anti-corruption crusader, Kevin Ekow Taylor, said the MP has provoked him.
According to the alleged email that was read out loud by Kevin on his show – loud silence media, Mr. Johnson accused the Assin Central MP of pelting him with lies.
Mr. Johnson reacting to a statement purportedly made by the MP that the Congressman has rendered unqualified apologies to him for urging the US to sanction him over the murder of the journalist.
Thus, Mr Agyapong on his television, Net2 on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, supposedly said the Congressman apologised to him when he visited Ghana in 2019 and even commended him for doing a great job for his country.
The Assin Central MP ostensibly said Mr. Johnson during his official visit to the country frantically searched for him to make amends.
In response to his colleague lawmaker in another country’s claim, simply said the Ghanaian lied. “Mr. Agyapong assertion that I apologized to him in any way or told him, what a great job he was doing is a lie.”
This diplomatic banter has pushed the Congressman to charge at the Assin Central MP by saying that “I thanked the Member of Parliament for renewing my interest in this case and looking forward vigorously engaging with a new US administration to look further into the matter.”
In the mail, Mr Johnson indicated that he indeed met with Mr Agyapong on his official visit to Ghana but was no instance that he apologized to the latter.
Mr Johnson stressed that apologising to the MP is tantamount to denouncing his support to journalists and press freedom.
