The Circuit Court is set to deliver its sentence on February 27, 2025, in the case of Foster Nyarko, a 36-year-old unemployed ex-convict who pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing.

Nyarko was arraigned before the court for unlawfully entering the premises of the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment in the Greater Accra Region on December 4, 2024, with the intent to commit a crime.

He subsequently stole a Dell laptop worth GH¢24,745.00 from the office of a Deputy Director.

The Charges

Nyarko faces two counts under the Criminal Offences Act 29/60:

  • Count One: Unlawful entry with intent to commit a crime, contrary to Sections 152 and 124(1).
  • Count Two: Stealing, contrary to Section 124(1).

Case Background

According to the prosecution, Nyarko visited the Ministry under the pretext of seeking a cleaning job.

He was directed to the Human Resource Director but instead proceeded to the second floor, where he entered the office of Daniel Sakyi Asiedu, a Deputy Director in charge of Policy, Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation.

Finding the office unoccupied, Nyarko seized the opportunity to steal the laptop, concealed it in his backpack, and left the premises.

Investigations later revealed that Nyarko had sold the stolen laptop to an unidentified buyer in Takoradi. Upon his arrest, he admitted to the crime, leading to his prosecution.

The court, presided over by [Judge’s Name], remanded Nyarko into custody pending sentencing.

Given his criminal history, legal analysts anticipate a stiff penalty when the court hands down its decision later this month.
