Two youngsters in court over robbery charges

Daniel wunyama, 21, and Joseph Biney, 17, have come into contact with the law for conspiring to commit crime – robbery at Nungua in the Greater Accra region.
The two were arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court ‘4’ presided over by Mr Emmanuel Essandoh yesterday.

Per the brief facts presented before the court by Inspector Eric Pobee, Daniel, scrap collector and a resident of Nungua Boade attacked one Doris Boateng, an Insurance Broker who resides in the same area on January 1, 2022.

The prosecuting officer read to the court that on the said date and about 2:00am, the accused persons met each other and was moving around the neighbourhood at a time the complainant was returning from watch night church service.

He narrated that Doris on reaching a section of the road near Iron Bar at Nungua Boade, Daniel accosted her, pulled a knife and pointed it on her, demanding she surrender her hand bag.

“Out of fear, complainant handed over her hand bag containing an Iphone 6 mobile phone value GH¢600.00, one Hwawei Y9 mobile phone value GH¢1,900.00 and cash amount of GH¢10.00 and fled with it,” he said.
Inspt Pobee added that the complainant shouted for help and Joseph appeared at the scene, saying the 17 year old feigned helping to arrest Daniel by chasing him, but never returned.

“Some members of the community who also heard the shout of complainant came around and complainant gave description of her attacker. The community members suspected Al (Daniel) after the description.
“The Community members accompanied complainant to the place of abode of Al for his identification and arrest.”

According to him, the community members on reaching where Daniel lives, the residents rather Joseph in possession of complainant’s IPhone 6 which was part of the items in complainant’s hand bag.

“On seeing the complainant and the neighbours, A2 (Joseph) dropped the Iphone 6 on the ground and bolted. A2 was subsequently arrested to the police station and a complaint was lodged,” he added.

Two days after the incident, Joseph led police to arrest Al at Nungua Boade and during investigations, Daniel admitted the offence and led police to retrieve complainant’s brown hand bag together with the Huawei Y9 mobile phone.

Joseph was admitted to bail while Daniel was remanded one week in to lawful custody.
