President erred with Ga Mantse matters, faction

President Akufo-Addo’s announcement that his regime has seen yet another successful resolution of a major chieftaincy with the instalment of new Ga Mantse has got the other faction talking.

According to a press release issued by the Ga Paramount Stool Dzasetse Nii Yaote Oto-Ga II, the statement by the President was rather unfortunate, as the Ga state had a legitimate Ga Mantse before he was even voted into power in 2017.

He said the only challenge the President had was that he failed to recognise the Ga Mantse in the person of Nii Tackie Adama Latse II.

“The Ga Paramount Stool Dzase wishes to inform the general public that contrary to the statement attributed to the President that he is excited that there is a Ga Mantse during his tenure of office, the truth of the matter is that, there was no Ga Mantse dispute at the time he was sworn into office as the President of the Republic of Ghana.

“This, we believe, is in furtherance to an earlier statement made by the President at Akropong Akuapem to the effect that he has resolved both the Yendi and Ga Mantse chieftaincy disputes,” he contended.

He pointed out that the supposed Ga Mantse dispute was imposed on the Ga State by some key elements in the Akufo-Addo’s Government.

Nii Yaote Oto-Ga II wants the world to know that Ga Mantse dispute is far from over, as there are currently five cases pending at the various courts, which prevents the National House of Chiefs from registering the new Ga Mantse.

He decries: “We condemn the Political interference in the Ga Chieftaincy affairs. Political power is required to be used to unite people but not divide them as been the case in the past five (5) years.”

Nii Yaote Oto-Ga II added that Nii Tackie Adama Latse II was entooled in accordance with the long standing Ga customary rites, procedures and traditions on June 11, 2011 and has neither been destooled nor abdicated to warrant the President’s acknowledgment  new Ga Mantse.

“We wish to state that the status of Nii Tackie Adama Latse II as Ga Mantse, cannot be changed by the exercise of any political authority…” he stressed.
