Opuni to take cover at Supreme Court
His Lordship Justice Clemence Jackson Honyenuga has adjourned the trial of the former Chief Executive (CE) of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCBOD), Dr Stephen Kwabena Opuni and two others hearing to January 31, following an application filed at the Supreme Court to bar him from further hearing the case.
The application was filed by Dr Opuni, adding to the numerous attempts to have the Supreme Court Justice sitting as an additional High Court removed from the case.
The judge, therefore, adjourned the January 17, 2022 hearing to await the motion before the Apex court.
The former EC of COCOBOD is standing trial together with businessman, Seidu Agongo and his company, Agricult Ghana Limited, for allegedly causing financial loss to the state to the tune of GH¢217 million.
In the new motion filed before the Apex court, Dr Opuni seeks to quash a ruling by the trial court, which dismissed his application for the removal of Justice Honyenuga, on the grounds that the judge has allegedly showed open hostility and bias towards him.
