The Network for Assin Development (NAD), non-governmental organisation, has donated 80 dual desks and other educational materials  to the Dwenakyi DA Primary School in the Assin North Municipality of the Central region.

The donation was necessitated by information gathered by NAD that about 18 schools in the area were facing infrastructure challenges, hence impeding teaching and learning.

Per the NGO’s information about 60 per cent of these schools organise classes under a very deplorable conditions.

The Executive Director of NAD, Samuel Adobah noted that the presentation of the items was to salvage the situation.

He observed that the deplorable conditions under which teaching and learning take place has affected the overall academic performance of the municipality.

“It is in this regard that we are embarking on this donation exercise as part of the 2nd Phase of our project dubbed ‘Boanimdea,” he said.

According to him, education is a fundamental human right for all children and this right may not be realized if strategic measures are not put in place to ensure the provision of adequate infrastructure to schools.

Mr Adobah noted that children living in rural settings often struggle to have access to quality education unlike their counterparts in urban areas because of poor infrastructure.

He added that Dwenakyi is one of the communities that had not received fair share of the national cake, therefore, lagging behind development.

The NAD leader stated that the government cannot boost of providing the area with any social amenities that can support the people’s development.

The Project Coordinator for NAD, Rev. Stephen Arthur giving an overview of the project noted that prior to their visit to the school, the school was in dire need of educational materials.

“we decided to come to their aid. The items donated are worth GH¢ 10,000. This year’s 4th edition of Boanimdea Project held in collaboration with Mr. James Ken Coffie, a businessman leaving in abroad,” he stated.

The Chief of the Community, Nana Kofi Osuman commended the Network for coming to the aid of the community, stressing that the donation will go long way to help improve teaching and learning in the area.
