Mother of 3 beaten to pulp by husband and his girlfriend

An unemployed mother of three, Mary Ohenewaa age 34, has been beaten to pulp by her husband Richard Kwasi Sekyi, a 35 years old auto mechanic.

Due to the severity of the beatings, Ohenewaa nearly passed out, lost one a tooth in the process and her hearing ability.    

This act assault on Mary was allegedly also perpetrated by Richard and his girlfriend, one Christiana Antwiwaa who is currently at large.

In a brief facts presented before an Accra Circuit Court, Mary and Richard had been married for eight years with three children of seven, four and two years.

According to the facts, Mary had been subjected to beating by the husband for calling his lover on phone and insulted her.

Infuriated by what the wife has done, Richard assault Mary by hitting on the right side of the face with the fist.

Mary allegedly suffered shocks from being hits and immediately felt dizziness, hence fell to the ground and lost one teeth, as well as hearing sense.

Mary being stroked by this unfortunate circumstances of her marriage, reported the case to Amasaman Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) and was issued with medical form to attend hospital for examination and treatment.

Meanwhile, the prosecutorSergeant Opoku Aniagyei said Richard after subjecting the wife to this trauma left his marital home to be with the girlfriend at Kpobiman and also stopped his fatherly duty.

However, on February 14, 2021, one of the children fell sick, so Mary went to her mother-in-law to accompany her to Richard’s girlfriend’s house.

Although the mother-in-law agreed and accompanied her, the two met Richard’s absence, hence a message was given to the supposed girlfriend to be passed to the “runaway husband”.

The prosecutor said the incident that followed was dishearten, as the two visit enraged Richard so much that he went back home and assaulted his wife mercilessly by holding her neck and strangled her.

“It took his mother sometime before she could rescued the complainant from the accused person. [The] complainant for fear of her life left home and came back on February 21, 2021 only to detect that first accused person has relocated her children to his girlfriend, Christiana’s place at Kpobiman,” he read out.          

 Nonetheless, Mary and Richard also live at Treba near Kpobima.

 In desperate attempt to bring the children back to her home, Richard upon seeing her match towards the complainant pushed away. She reportedly fell twice on the ground.

Richard’s lover, Christiana joined the attack by using a stick to hits the complainant thighs while lying on the floor and was nearly paralyzed at the moment.

Mary was rescued by onlookers, which one is witnessing against Richard.

Richard is being tried physical assault was granted bail in the sum of GH₵60,000 with three sureties, two of which must justified.
