Minority Caucus Demo against BoG takes off July 30
The Minority Caucus in Parliament, led by Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central Mahama Ayariga, has announced plans for a public protest against the Governors and Board of the Bank of Ghana.
The protest, slated for July 30, 2024, aims to bring to the fore issues perceived by the caucus as detrimental to the nation’s financial stability and economic growth.
The Accra Regional Police Command confirmed receipt of a letter from the organizers, dated July 5, 2024, outlining the details of the planned demonstration.
Following discussions held on July 16, 2024, between the organizers and police officials, specific modalities for the protest were agreed upon to ensure its peaceful conduct.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwasi Annor, Regional Commander of Accra, the protest will commence at Obra Spot in Adabraka and proceed through Farisco to Ridge Roundabout, then continuing to the National Theatre Traffic Light and the High Court Complex.
The route will then lead to Atta Mills Highway, culminating at the Kwame Nkrumah Museum.
Organizers have been instructed to nominate ten representatives who will deliver a petition to relevant authorities during the protest.
“We assure the organizers of our continuous cooperation and commitment to maintaining law and order during this public demonstration,” stated Deputy Commissioner Annor. “It is imperative that all participants conduct themselves peacefully before, during, and after the event.”
The Minority Caucus has voiced persistent concerns over the management of the country’s monetary policies and the decision-making processes within the Bank of Ghana.
Their grievances include what they perceive as detrimental actions impacting the national economy and the livelihoods of Ghanaian citizens.
In response to these concerns, MP Mahama Ayariga emphasized the caucus’s determination to use democratic means to advocate for necessary reforms.
“Our protest aims to underscore the urgency of addressing these critical issues affecting our economy. We seek transparency, accountability, and policies that promote sustainable economic growth for all Ghanaians,” Ayariga affirmed.
As preparations intensify for the upcoming demonstration, all eyes are on Accra, where the Minority Caucus plans to make their grievances heard loud and clear, calling for immediate actions from the authorities to address their concerns regarding the governance of the Bank of Ghana.
