Man faints in court during proceedings

A 46 year old shipping consultant, Owen Kwane Frempong alias “Darling boy” fainted during court proceedings today in Accra.

Owen is standing trial with one Evans Owureku Appiah Amofa, 39 years and car dealer, fainted in the witness box while his defence counsel was on his feet pleading with an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Emmanuel Esandoh to grant them bail.

Owen and Evans are standing try for allegedly defrauding a businessman of an amount of US$29,000.00 by false pretence on May 2, 2020.

The two were supposed to supply the said businessman a chemical by name Carbomer, used in the manufacturing of hand sanitizer.

According to the state prosecutor, Inspector Eric Pobee, although these two delivered the said consignment, investigation later revealed the chemical to be fake.

He told the court that the accused persons in attempt to succeed with their plan alleged involved some three police officers, who arrested the businessman who is the complainant in the case.

Inspector Pobee indicated to the court that police officers in a Rambo style arrested the businessman together with others, shortly after they took delivery of the consignment in an ice chest at a spot at Prampram.

He said the said police officers after detaining their suspect for a while released but also seized the US$29,000.00 worth carbomer chemical.

The businessman in an effort to retrieve the chemical back, reported the case to the police, for the police had been interdicted and the two others tried for conspiracy to commit crime and defrauding by false pretence.
