Girl, 12, has been defiled and impregnated by a 67 year old man who claims the minor was not naive and whatever happened between them was a consentual sex.

He told the Accra Circuit Court presided over by Patricia Amponsah that the 12 year old had been coming to him voluntarily for sex.

This defence put out by Yaw Alhassan, corn mill operator, could not save his fate yesterday from being sentenced into maximum jail term of 20 years by the court.

The convict cover was blown off when the minor felt sick and was sent to the hospital by her aunty whom she lives with together and the grandmother.

According to the facts before the court, the three and the convict are co-tenant or live on the same Compound or house in one of the suburbs of Accra.

However, the girl’s grandmother, a trader, had travelled outside the Greater Accra region when she received the information about what the convict has done to the grandchild.

It was upon her instruction that the girl was sent to the hospital and it was discovered that fetus was growing steadily in her womb over the past two months.

The convict was arrested after the case was reported to police by the victim’s grandmother.

The convict during investigation confessed to the police that he defiled the 12 year.
