Francis Aboakye, Attorney-General’s 10th Prosecution Witness (PW10) in a treason trial of some 10 individuals, has testified that Dr. Fredrick Mac-Palm (A1), an alleged leader of a coup plot was smack on the buttocks or at back but was not tortured, as being portrayed his counsel to the court.

The witness told the Financial and Economic Division ‘2’ of the Accra High Court presided over by Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, Hafisata Amaleboba, and Justice Stephen Oppong yesterday that it was a member of the investigation team that smacked him at the buttocks or the back.

Before then, Mr. Aboakye who was part of the investigation team denied any knowledge of the accused being assaulted by any member of the joint security force, made up of personnel drawn from the Ghana Police Service, National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), and military police.

But Ephriam Vordoagu, defense counsel for Dr. Mac-Palm insisted while cross-examining PW10 that his client was tortured by one of the military officers to put him under duress to make false claims of the improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and locally manufactured weapons that were allegedly found at A1’s Citadel Hospital compound.

Mr. Vordoagu indicated to the court that there is a video, in which A1 was captured being tortured by the said military officer to compel him to claim ownership of the IEDs and the locally manufactured weapons.

The lawyer added that a sketch that was purportedly found in A1’s bedroom at the hospital was planted by Military Intelligence.
