Kennedy Agyapong cannot do ‘foko’ to Mahama – Yamin

The former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Administration, Joseph Yamin has cautioned the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong to stop issuing empty threats to former President John Dramani Mahama.

According to Mr Yamin, the MP has no right to threaten any citizen, much more to talk about the former president of the Republic of Ghana.

This was as, Mr Agyapong has told former President Mahama that he would be met with brutal force if he tries to incite his supporters to cause mayhem in the country.

Mr Agyapong’s comment follows the former president’s outright rejection of the Monday’s presidential outcome declared by the Electoral Commissioner, Jean Mensa.

According to Ex-President, he would resist any attempt by the government to subvert the sovereign will of the people.

However, Mr Yamin in an interview on Saturday, December 12, 2020 in Accra, dared Mr Agyapong to make any attempt to attack the former president.

Kennedy Agyapong lacks substance

To him, “we have given opportunity to people just to speak anyhow they want. I am sure Kennedy is speaking just because he is a Member of Parliament. He may be a Member of Parliament because the constituency he comes from are basically members of the NPP, so he is not there on merit.”

He stated that had it not been for the NPP structure that Kennedy has worked his way through and the Assin constituents were really to assess him based on his performance, none of them would have voted for him.

Mr Yamin continued that “when you are within the stronghold of a political party, people will vote for you not based on the messages you are putting across, but because you are standing on a certain political party’s ticket.”

The former deputy Sport Minister pointed out that the media is giving too much attention to “useless” statement coming from people like Kennedy Agyapong.

He stressed that Mr Mahama has same democratic right just as Nana Addo in 2012, when he lost the presidential election and the NPP decided to challenge the result in court.

This, he asked “where was Kennedy Agyapong at the time. Did he see that as a means of trying destroying the country or he thought it was their democratic right to challenge the result they feel it was not the right thing.

“Sometimes they (NPP) think, they are better human beings than us. So if Nana Addo challenged the result and it was okay and if Mahama is to challenge the result, he has no right, is this the gospel, according to the NPP.”

According to him, it was surprising such statement was coming out of a Member of Parliament, since Mr Agyapong’s utterances are basely and insensible.

“To me, this the most useless statement that anybody in the status of a Member of Parliament can bring out,” he stressed.

Mr Yamin went on to say “he (Kennedy) is talking about they (NPP) having bad guys. Has Mahama indicated anywhere that he is going to war? So the point is that you have won an election, the figures are not tallying, even from the EC (Electoral Commission) own point of view,  from our collation side is not tallying, and even with the NPP themselves it is not tallying.”

He explained that the NPP claims they secured 1.6 million votes in the Ashanti region, while the NDC and EC respectively recorded 1.4 million and 1.7 million for the NPP.

Mr Yamin pointed out to the in consistencies in these figures, which could only be clarified in either the law court of competent jurisdiction for sanity to prevail.

In this regard, he asked “what is Kennedy Agyapong afraid of? What is the NPP afraid of? It is as if some people want to exercise their democratic rights you will come out to make statement like this.”

Who is Kennedy Agyapong to warn John Mahama

The former Deputy Sport Minister questioned that what right Mr Agyapong has got to warn former President John Mahama, saying the Assin Central MP comes nowhere near to Mr Mahama in anything.

Mr Yamin said the MP cannot compared himself to the former president not even “in terms of physical appearance and not to talk of the height that he had attained. Mahama has been the President of this country before. There is no way if this world should turned round and come back, Kennedy Agyapong will not get the opportunity to become the vice president not to talk about president.”

In furtherance to this, he added “So who does he think he is to threaten former President John Mahama. The time for this people mouth to shut is now. Let me dare Kennedy Agyapong that Mahama will not respond to him because Mahama has no time to respond to people like him.

“We will respond to him. If he is a man he should come out physically. He should not say he is going to use people. If he is a man he should come out, he will see that there are more ‘stupid’ people than he thinks he is in this country.”

In furtherance to this, he then indicated to Mr Agyapong that Ex-President John Mahama will also not stoop so low to respond to Kennedy Agyapong
