A 42-year old headman supervisor and sand winner, Ganiu Munkaila has been jailed 24 months for stealing 36 cattle belonging to one Zakaria Cobbinah, cattle farmer and a businessman.

He was found guilty of stealing by the Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Afia Owusua Appiah, last week after a full trial.

In the facts of the case presented by the prosecuting officer, DSP Emmanuel Nyamkye to the court, the convict was supervising Mr. Cobbinah’s herdsman, Yakubu Usman at Kweikrom.

However, in the year 2013, Mr. Cobbinah entrusted his cattle business into the hands of the convict upon a recommendation by one Mallam Dramani.

Mr. Cobbinah gave the convict the sum of GH¢37,000.00 to buy 37 cattle his 21 herd of cattle.

Very disappointing, the convict failed to add the 37 cattle to the complainant’s herd and all efforts to get him comply also prove futile.

To add insult to injury, the convict on May 31, 2021, organised one Sakawa, Ibrahim and Jael, currently at large, to rob the herdsman of six cattle.

The Convict, in order to cover his involvement in the crime, induced the herdsman to inform the complainant that the robbers robbed him of 60 cattle and also led Police to arrest some cattle herdsmen in the area.

He also disclosed identities of herdsmen to the witnesses before an identification parade was organized by the Police.

After investigation, the accused person was charged with the offences and arraigned before this Honorable Court.
