Ghana Police Warn of Potential Unlawful Activities by Democracy Hub
Intelligence reports from the Ghana Police Service suggest that some members of the Democracy Hub may be planning illegal activities that could jeopardize national peace and security.
These activities reportedly include defying a court order prohibiting protests outside Jubilee House, carrying weapons, attacking government officials and police, and causing public disturbances.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, addressed these concerns during a press briefing today. She stated that the organizers have repeatedly rejected proposals to move their demonstration to alternative locations, such as the 37 Roundabout and Airport Roundabout, resulting in a deadlock.
The police have urged the Democracy Hub to reconsider their stance and choose from several suggested locations, including the Cantonments Post Office-DVLA stretch and Efua Sutherland Park. These discussions took place during a meeting this morning.
ASP Ansah-Akrofi reiterated the court order prohibiting the demonstration at Revolution Square, citing public safety concerns. The organizers acknowledged the order but suggested alternative sites, which the police believe could pose risks to public safety.
The police stressed the need for compliance with the Public Order Act and warned that organizers could face legal consequences for any violations. They assured the public that adequate security measures are in place to handle any potential issues and encouraged citizens to support law enforcement efforts in maintaining order.
The police also invited the public to engage with the organizers to help facilitate a resolution.
