Gabby Otchere Darko is a disturbance – Sophia Akuffo
Former Chief Justice (CJ) Sophia Akuffo who hails from the father side of President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has replied Ghana’s shadow Prime Minister, Gabby Otchere Darko’s vituperation in an equal measure.
Gabby Otchere Darko is also relates to the President through the latter mother line, hence putting the First Gentleman of Ghana in the centre of confusion.
In what may be deemed as a crippling family feud, started by Gabby Otchere Darko taking to his Twitter account to tweet in condemnation of the former CJ, for joining pensioners to protest against the Finance Minister, who also is a family member, decision to use individual bondholders and pension funds in the debt exchange programme in order to get a deal with the IMF.
Although Mr Darko claims the former CJ’s desire to join the pensioners to picket at the Ministry of Finance was not necessary, Madam Akuffo believes otherwise.
She begun her response by asking a rhetorical question when journalists confronted her with the issue, saying: “Is he a member of the Government.”
Her Lady went on to state that Gabby does not decide for her, what she needs to do aught not to do and “it is as simple as that.”
She continued: “You know, I don’t have time for things like that. People like that are not important to me or my life. He is a disturbance.”
Madam Sophia made headlines for being the first retired judge of the apex court to have joined a proper of that nature.
She was motivated to join the protest because she is over 70 years and not under any oath, which requires that judges don’t descend into an arena of controversy.
This relieve she greatly described it as “I’m now ungagged.”
The Pensioners have threatened to picket in front of the ministry until their demands are met.
