President Nana Akufo-Addo has responded to critics that he has never held the view that the work of the former Auditor-General, Mr Daniel Yaw Domelevo was embarrassing his government.

The President rather said, he has always been a strong advocate for the Office of the Auditor-General because he believes the work of the Auditor-General is necessary for ensuring that the country’s financial resources are used prudently and the public purse is protected.

This, he said in a 25 page document signed by Secretary to the President, Nana Badiato Asante as a respond to concerns raised by the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations on the removal of Domelevo.

Mr Akufo-Addo response comes on the heels of some Civil Society groups strongly holding the opinion that Mr Domelevo was targeted, as a crusader against corruption, hence his unfortunate removal from office after being forced to take accumulative leave of 167 days.m

According to President Akufo-Addo, despite being worried about the strange circumstances surrounding the appointment of Mr Domelevo, he supported the work of the Audit Service and the Auditor-General Mr Domelevo.

“The President has never held the view that the work of Mr Domelevo was embarrassing his government. On the contrary, the President has always been a strong advocate for the Office of the Auditor-General because he believes the work of the Auditor-General is necessary for ensuring that the country’s financial resources are used prudently, and the public purse is protected,” he said.

The President to ensured that Mr Domelevo had the necessary resources required for the efficient running of the Audit Service, because the government considers the work of the Audit Service a critical part of good governance.

President Akufo-Addo added that it cannot be the position of government that it targeted Mr Domelevo and wanted him out at all cost.

In fact, he described this assertion widely held by the Civil Society Groups and many others in the public sphere, as completely baseless and must be totally disregarded.

He also accused his predecessor former President Mahama of nominating an Auditor-General at the last minutes, with the sole aim of saddling his government.

Although President Akufo-Addo claimed the Auditor-General corruption fight was not shaming his government, however, was certain that Mr Domelevo owes allegiance former President Mahama, instead of the nation

President Akufo-Addo further claims Mr Domelevo has never held a position as an auditor and that prior to his first voluntary retirement in 2010, he worked as a Director at the Accountant General.

Similarly, Mr Domolevo has a questionable two dates of births – June 1, 1960 and June 1, 1961- all on record.

Additionally, the now former Auditor-General has three hometowns- Agbatofe in Togo, Ada in the Greater Accra region and Kumasi in the Ashanti region.
