Director of Decalf Trading Ltd ‘caught’ in money laundry scandal

The Director of Decalf Trading Limited, Alfred Kwame Dzidefo alias Alfred Derrick Mensah is being is being prosecuted by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on the various counts of forgery of official document, possession forged document, defrauding by false pretence and money laundering.

According to a brief facts presented before the trying court, EOCO received a complaint from Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) to investigate certain transactions that were carried out by Alfred.

The facts indicated that EOCO investigations disclosed that Decalf Trading Ltd, which is a registered Ghanaian business, incorporated on August 2, 2017 and had respectfully been the following account numbers; 000601150959 for cedis while 0004051503755 and 006041505072 are dollar with Zenith Bank Ghana Limited Tema Industrial Area branch.

The facts stated that Alfred had operated the accounts since September 15, 2017 under the company’s name.

It also added that Decalf Trading Ltd had two directors – Alfred Tsyi aka Alfred Dzidefo aka Alfred Derrick Mensah and one Marcus Addae- who are also shareholders, with each holding 50 percent of the company’s shares.

Interestingly, the circuit court was told the only signatory to these accounts is Alfred who has can now be identified with three names.

However, on December 11, 2029, the Bank received an inflow US$206, 000.00 in favour of the company in the account number 0004051503755 from Everest Investment Group Luxembourg.

 The facts added that, out of the amount 100,000.00 was transferred into the company’s Cedi account and was subsequently withdrawn by Alfred and one other person by name Louisa Sedenam Esi Dogbe.

There was another transfer of US$100,000.00 from the account to Ming Bright Industrial Corporation Limited of China, as payment to print polo shirts and caps.

Hitherto, Alfred had indicated the bank that the fund received from Everest was a contribution towards a joint venture with DTL, also called Reseed Limited, a real estate company.

Two days after the first transfer, thus December 13, the bank received another inflow of the same amount, US$206, 000.00 in favour of Decalf Company from the same remitter.

The facts revealed that when Alfred was question about same, he this time round claimed that the funds were payments are setup capital and explained that the capital and equity shares in their joint venture.

However, documentary evidence provided by Alfred could not support same. According to the facts, Alfred’s proof of claim were so inconsistent.

“For instance in an earlier report received in the course of investigation indicated that the remitter did not know Alfred Tsyi but at all material dealt with Derrick Mensah as the representative of Decalf Company Ltd.

“The report further indicates that an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) was entered between Decalt, Everest Everop and Oaktree Participation SA,” it discloses.

Nonetheless, the representative of Decalt Company Ltd in the agreement is Derrick Mensah and not Alfred Tsyi.

The remitter director in its communication said he/she had visited Ghana on three different occasions and in all these instances, it was Derrick Mensah that was engaged.

Alfred has granted bail of GHC4 million.
