Court remands a farmer on robbery charges

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a 28 year old farmer, Yakubu Iddrisu into police custody on robbery charges.

Iddrisu was arraigned before court on December 14, 2021 to reappear in ten days time (December 24) for continuation of his trial by Mr Emmanuel Essandoh.

Prior to the Iddrisu’s remand, the court was told by the Prosecuting Officer, Inspector Eric Pobee that on December 12, 2021, the complainant was in-charge of VW Polo car with registration number GE 6142-21.

According to him, the complainant was using the car for private hiring services or ride hailing, namely Uber.

He said Iddrisu and his accomplice Imoro, currently at large, who have no permanent place of abode placed an order on Uber, for which the complainant was assigned to pick and drive them from Korle Bu to the Airport Residential Area.

The Prosecuting Officer narrated that while the complainant drove Iddrisu and his accomplice to the National Banking College Area, the accused who was in the front seat pointed a pistol at him and Imoro also pulled a cutlass, and ordered him to surrender all items on him including the ignition key.

He stated that the complainant handed over the ignition key, his Samsung A2 Mobile Phone and unspecified amount of money to them.

“They abandoned the complainant and bolted with vehicle. The complainant rushed to the roadside to seek help. A Police Inspector who was on board his private vehicle pulled up and chased the accused and his accomplice,” he added.

Inspector Pobee said the Police who had his official sidearm on him, fired a warning shot and this resulted in the accused persons abandoning the vehicle together with the phone and to flee.

“At the same time, Police Patrol Team came around. They searched the area and arrested the accused but his accomplice managed to escape,” he asserted.

The prosecuting officer told the court that during Iddrisu in his caution statement that his is a farmer at Yendi but decided to come and look for a job in Accra.

He met the accomplice who promised him a job.
