Court grants Abronye DC bail

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe @Abronye DC has been granted bail in the tune of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.

The court presided over by Her Honour Adelaide Abui Keddy ordered yesterday that the sureties deposited their passports and valid ID cards at the court’s registrary.

Abronye DC was charged with the offence of publication of false news and offensive conduct conducive to breach peace.

The Bono Regional Chairman has pleaded not guilty to all the changes.

In respect to the charges, the court was told by the Prosecuting Officer Chief Inspector Dennis Tekpetey that the accused on February 14, 2022, made some inflammatory statements on Hot FM, an Accra based radio station, to the effect that former President John Dramani Mahama was liaising with Al Qaeda militant group to stage coup d’tate in Ghana.

In view of the statement, he said the police invited Abronye DC, 40, and subsequently arrested him and slapped him with the above mentioned counts.

Abronye DC defence counsel, Anthony Namoo urged the court to grants his client bail as he is personality of stature.

The lawyer said Abronye DC is a personality of stature because he is a farmer and chairman the ruling political party.
