The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) investigator, Detective Chief Inspector Michael Nkrumah has admitted that the accused persons in a coup plot were not arrested in a meeting that was to finalise their plan to overtake the government.

He said that piece of evidence in his affidavit in support of a motion was a typographical error.

This disclosure followed a question by Kormivi Dotsi, counsel for the Director of Police Reform, ACP Dr Benjamin Agordzor who had been accused among some nine persons for plotting an overthrow of the Akufo-Addo government.

The counsel asked Mr Nkrumah, prime witness in the case that “So you stated an untruth when you said that on 20th September, 2019 that the accused were arrested at a meeting,” and the later responded: “No my lord. I will say that the meeting there is a typographical error.”

Mr Dotsi harnessed on this point and suggested to the court that it was possible that witness had made similar errors in his evidence before the lords – Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwi Justice Hafisata Amalebob and Justice Stephen Oppong.

“Talking about typographical error, the facts you gave to prosecutors in this case includes a statement that A10 and A1 agreed to organise demonstrations that would lead to the take over of the government based on your analysis of the WhatsApp chat. Would you say that was also a typographical error?”

The investigator denied the assertion and explained that the ACP Agordzor and Dr Frederick Mac Palm had discussed how to organise a massive demonstration, leading to the overthrow of the government

The court was further told that it was not factual that GH¢2,000 donation made by Dr Agordzor to Dr Frederick Mac Palm was for the purpose of organising a demonstration for overthrowing government.

Mr Dotsi explained that the amount was in respect of medical outreach that was held by Dr Mac Palm.

The defence counsel said it was never the case that it was the intelligent agencies that discovered the issue of the donation as the court is being made to believe but Dr Agordzor stated it in his statement.

He added that Dr Agordzor has never held any discussion with Dr Mac Palm to the effect that GH¢2,000 was in support of organisation of demonstrations with undertone, coup plot.

The counsel put a question to the witness: “You will agree with me that the intelligent agencies never knew about the GH¢2,000 donation untill A10 disclosed it in his caution statement?

Witness: That is true but the intelligent agencies knew A10 had pay a certain amount of money to A1

Q. You have not put any evidence before this court to support what you have said?

A. Yes . The WhatsApp chats that A1 acknowledge the receipt of payment from A10 and A10 statement which he also made mention of the amount.

Q. So you believe A10 when he said he made a donation of GH¢2,000 don’t you?

A. Yes because A1 acknowledged that A10 had made a donation to him.

Q. My lords I want Exhibits AW series to be shown to the witness. Please go to the 5th line at the bottom of Exhibit AW, reading: “I gave an amount of GH¢2,000 to Max Palm for the outreach programmes. A10 did not only make the statement but the purpose?

A. Yes my lords, the purpose of this outreach programs was not disclosed between A1 and A10. And A10 statement which he made mention of payment is before this court.
