Christians urged against mass gathering in celebrating Easter
The Easter festivities are often marked with mass gathering, where Christian Churches and their congregants in the memory of the suffering, death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
A practice that have gone for centuries, is being advised to be observed in moderation to avoid the spread of a deadly virus.
This advice by the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) is among many others that seek to protect the public from spreading and contract Coronavirus (Covid-19), which since its outbreak in China city of Wuhan in 2019 had infected over 129 million people and claimed more than 2million lives.
The Christian Council to help the church accept the new normal, has issued a press statement title “Christian Ecumenical Bodies in Ghana Pastoral Letter” dated March 25, 2021 and signed by the CCG Chairman Most Rev. Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo.
The content of the letter reiterates that ban on public gathering still stands and same is applied to Easter celebration.
According to the statement, the Easter activities have the tendency to cause a spike of the virus that the government had worked to put it under control.
In case, some church would still hold service, they can only do so within two hours while observing social distance, it added.
The statement further stated the importance of churches taking the responsibility of constantly sanitizing microphone between use while insisting on washing of hands with soap under running water and wearing of nose mask.
The Christian Ecumenical Bodies are the CG, Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference (GCBC), Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Conference (GPCC), National Association of Christian and Charismatic Churches (NACCC), Ghana Charismatic Bishops Conference (GCBC) Council for African Instituted Churches (CAIC) and National Clergy Association of Ghana (NACAG).
