Car dealer gets GHC140,000 bail

An Accra Circuit Court has given a 39-year car dealer, Evans Owureko Amofa, a GHC140, 000 bail and three sureties, one should be a public servant earning not less than GHC3, 000 and another to be justify by a landed property.

The court presided over by His Honour Mr Emmanuel Essandoh handed the bail conditions to Evans today, October 5.

Evans together with one Owen Kwame Frempong are before the court for allegedly scamming a businessman of US$29,000 with the promise to sell to him a chemical used in the manufacturing hand sanitizer called Carbo.

Although the said chemical was provided, it turned out to be something different other than what was expected after police investigations.

Meanwhile, Evans and Owen in attempt to hide the actual content from the businessman, allegedly deployed the service of some police officers.

The police officers who currently have been interdicted by the Police Administration, according to the prosecutor Inspector Eric Pobee acted in common purpose as friends of the accused persons and falsely arrested the businessman together with some individuals with him on that faithful day.

The said police officers in a Rambo style arrested and seized the supposed chemical, which was delivered to the businessman by Evans and a lady in an ice chest.

This event took place shortly after Evans together with a lady who brought the ice chest and the businessman with his company parted ways.

Unhappy with how this churn out, a complainant was made against the police officers as well the accused persons at the Accra Regional Police by the businessman.

According to the prosecutor, Evans and Owen shared the “booty” in the fold of $19, 000 and $10, 000, respectively.

They have both made some commitment of paying part of the amount, for which Owen has paid $4,000 and Evans, $2,000.

The two have been granted bail and scheduled to reappear on October 19.
