Berekosuohene gives scholarship to bright students
Beatrice Baba Paintsil, single mother of 2022 Basic School Education Certificate Examination (BECE) best performing student of Akuapim South in the East region, has bemoaned how her husband abandoned his fatherly duty because their child was a girl.
Today, the rejected girl, Yvonne Araba Ohene has been crowned the best student of the Akuapim South municipality, scoring seven ones in the 2022 BECE.
Yvonne has been admitted to Aburi Girls Senior High School (SHS) to study science, which will pave way for her to achieve her dream as a heart surgeon in the future.
Apart from the Free SHS that she would be enjoying, Yvonne has also received scholarship from the Odeefuo Oteng Korankye ll Educational Fund, which will take care of her other expenses including exercise and textbooks, students’ mattress, trunk, calculator, bucket, bed sheet, pocket money and iron.
The touching story of Yvonne was shared by Madam Beatrice at Berekosuo after she accompanied her to receive the items from the Chief of Berekuso and Akwapim Twafohene, Odeefuo Oteng Korankye ll yesterday.
Yvonne completed the Nsakye Junior High School and she together with 14 others received the scholarship for their outstanding performance in the BECE.
Yvonne thanked Odeefuo Oteng Korankye II for the sponsorship as well as her mother who through thick and thin had stood strongly behind her, and promised to work hard at school to continuously make her proud.
Madam Beatrice was compelled to spill the beans when the master of ceremony (MC) made a passing comment that Yvonne has singled out her mother without giving any acknowledgment to her father on such a special day.
The comment did not go down well with Madam Beatrice and took to the microphone to say “after he rejected our child because she is a girl, I have not seen him again. But I have gathered that he has a son with another woman, whom he is willingly taking good care of him.”
Odeefuo Oteng Korankye ll, on his part, stated that the Odeefuo Oteng Korankye ll Educational Fund is ready to support the students throughout the three years period at the SHS as well as the university,
According to him, all that is expected of them is that they should study hard to achieve their personal goals in life as well as contribute their quota to the community development.
He informed the students that the Educational Fund board on regular bases would be assigning officers to visit the schools to assess their performances and where they fall short, help will be provided.
The Akwapim Twafohene reiterated that the students take their studies serious in order not to ruin the effort of the Educational Fund board and management.
