Three unemployed residents of Ashiaman in the Greater Accra region have been arraigned before a Kaneshie district court on alleged murder of a mechanic in Tema.

The accused persons are Benjamin Essel, Latif Nashiru and Michael Tetteh.

The three were also charged with attempted robbery by the state, when brought before the magistrate, Oheneba Tuffour.

Inspector Margret Ofori Boadi, prosecuting officer, told the court today that Samuel Ankomah, a Foreman at Mahak Ghana Limited-Tema, and Felix Tetteh Batse, a resident of Tema Community 22, are the complainants in the case.

She added that Felix is a brother of the deceased, James Tetteh Laweh, 33 and a Mechanic, who is believed to have been murdered by the accused persons and two others currently at large.

According to her, on February 18, 2022, Felix received a call from unknown mobile number 0548332419 and the person on the line expressed interest to purchase his unregistered Toyota RAV4.

She said person on the line requested to inspects the vehicle before making payment.

Four days later, February 22, Essel placed a called with same number to Felix and requested pictures of the vehicle to be sent to him for his perusal.

Following the receipt of the photographs, Essel introduced himself to Felix as a medical doctor at the Community 22 Polyclinic and urged that the vehicle was brought to him for inspection.

Felix also gave Essel’s contact to Ankomah to liaise with the latter for the conduct of the inspection, but could not be of assistance due to work.

However, Essel once again in April 23, 2022, called Felix to produce the said vehicle to him for inspection at the Tema Community 22 Polyclinic.

“Without hesitation PW2 (Felix) then called deceased James Tetteh Laweh to proceed with vehicle for inspection. PW1 (Ankomah) then released the ignition keys to the deceased to be taken to A1 (Essel),” she narrates.

After the inspection, Felix expressed interest in buying the vehicle, hence demanding for the documents covering the vehicle.

Ankorah then met late James at Tema Community 4 roundabout on April 25, 2022, ans proceeded to the Tema Community 22 Polyclinic for the inspection to conducted by “Dr Essel.”
