Asigri Quinn, a drive with Social Security and National Investment Trust (SSNIT), has told an Accra High Court Criminal Division that Gregory Afoko and Asabke Alangdi allegedly have a hand in the death of Adams Mahama.

According to him, late Adams Mahama, who was the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Upper East Regional Chairman, confirmed in him that these two individuals were the ones who pour acid on him and that if he dies, they are responsible.

Mr Quinn who was late Mahama’s Bolgatanga SNNIT Flats neighbour, testified before the court that he was in his house sleeping, when his wife called him that something was happening at late Adams Mahama’s house because there was crying and wailing for help.

As a result, he rushed to the scene while in his boxer shorts to find out what was happening.

He said to the court presided over by Justice Mrs Merley Wood today that when he rushed out, he found Adams Mahama and his wife in their compound with Adams Mahama crying and wailing and his skin was peeling off and becoming reddish.

“Upon seeing me, he mentioned my name Quinn help me and send me to the hospital, because was in a boxer shorts, I rushed back to my room to wear my trousers and shirt. Upon coming out, I met one Thomas and Zuwera with the deceased and his wife.

“Thomas upon seeing Adams Mahama’s body run back to his house. Adams Mahama gave me his car key.  It was a bunch of keys. Upon getting closer to the car. I opened the door and I realised that there was heat in the car and the dashboard of the car was melting. The driver’s seat has finished melting and it was left with the metal,” he said.

He narrated that the car inside light was on and the panel lights with the headlights were also on and as a result, he could not use his vehicle.

Hence, he resorted to using his own car but when he returned from his house, he realised the deceased was burnt to the waist.

“The deceased run naked and followed me to my car. The deceased sat behind my car and Zuwera sat in front. Whilst on our way to the hospital, the deceased started reciting Quoran verses and started mentioning names. He mentioned Gregory Afoko and one Asabke,” he stated.

He said late Adams told them that while returning from his construction site, Gregory Afoko and Asabke came to him, but after pulling off the driveway and rolling down the glasses to talk to them, they poured some substance on him.

“So when we got to the hospital, he was removed from the car and Zuwera used her cloth to tie the waist of the deceased. He was removed from my car and was wheeled to the emergency ward with Zuwera [accompanying],” he added.

Mr Quinn continued with his narration that he was having difficulty with parking since there was construction work going on at the Regional Hospital, however, returned afterwards to find the deceased lying on the bed.

According to him, late Adams Mahama entire body was soaked in water, “so I asked Zuwera what happened. She said the doctor had poured drip water on the body. The deceased then gave me his phone to call one Tofic.”

Mr Quinn being led by Chief State Attorney Marina Appiah Opare to give his evidence in chief, said the deceased phone had a pattern so he could not use it, therefore, the doctor who was attending to him gave him his phone.

Adams Mahama gave Tofic’s number and he called him but unfortunately there was no answer.

Although he said the Tofic could not answer the call, nevertheless managed to appear at the hospital.

“Adams Mahama upon seeing Tofic at hospital, he got up and sat on the bed. He narrated the same story that he was coming from the construction site and met Gregory Afoko and Asabke in his house. He rolled down the car glasses and they did this to him.

“Then he said he has executed this contract in Burkina Faso, which payment has been made and that the money should be given to his wife to take care of the children. He went further and said if he dies they should send him to his home town for burial,” he disclosed.

After the witness made those, the Chief State Attorney asked him exactly which people were present in the emergency ward when the deceased mentioned Gregory and Aabke to be the persons who poured the substance on him.

This, he answered that himself, Zuwera, Tofic, the doctor and other nurses., adding that “the emergency ward was becoming crowdie,  [because] people were coming in, so the nurses started sacking people to reduce the number of people from the emergency ward. At that time I was to embark on official trip so I left the hospital to the house around 1:00am. I was on the official duty at Sandema when a friend of mine called me and told me Adams Mahama is dead.”

In all these, Mr Quinn could not tell the Gregory’s defence lawyer, Stephen Sowah Charway, the time that all these events he had described to the court happened.
