A junior officer won’t even say farmers drunk Lithovit liquid fertilizer- witness
A second defense witness (DW2) in a cocoa try, Samuel Torbie has hit hard at the Special Advisor on Cocoa at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and former Chief Executive of Agronomy and Quality Control (A&QC) at Ghana Cocoa Board (COCBOD), Dr. Yaw Adu-Ampomah that his assertion that farmers drunk Lithovit Liquid Fertiliser on their farmers was not true.
In fact, DW2 could not fathom why such a statement should be made by a senior officer at the COCODOD Headquarter when “…junior officers at the CHED (Cocoa Health and Extension Division) district officer will not say that and not to talk of a senior officer.”
According to him, Lithovit Liquid Fertiliser is like any agrochemical that farmers were advised by CHED officers to take serious precautions when applying on their farms.
He told the court trying Dr Opuni and Seidu Agongo and his company, Agricult Ghana Limited, and presided over by Justice Clemence Honyenuga yesterday that upon the extension advice, farmers wore protective gears before applying Lithovit liquid fertilizer on their farms.
He told the court while being led by defense counsel for Dr Opuni Samuel Codjoe to give his evidence chief that the application of Lithovit lithovit fertilizer is one of the best things that has happened to him as a cocoa farmer.
Mr Torbie said he achieved his best yield of 8,125kg in the 2015/2016 cocoa season with the use of lithovit liquid fertiliser, as against 2,875kg and 3,687kg2 in 2013/14 and 2014/15 respectively, where other chemicals were applied.
