Villey Acheampong granted GH¢700k bail

The defeated parliamentary hopeful for the Subin Constituency in the Ashanti region, Villey Acheampong has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢700,000.00 with two sureties, one to be justified by landed property, of which the title deeds is to be deposited with the court registry.

Mr Acheampong was brought before the court presided over by Susana Eduful today on one count of defrauding by false pretence.

The brief facts of the case as presented on behalf of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Nyamekye are that Complainant Solomon Kwabi is a businessman  resident at Garden Estate Teshie, whilst accused person Villey Acheampong is a businessman,  resident at Baatsona – Spintex.

During the month of February 2020 accused person advertised his six-bedroom uncompleted house at Bastsona – Spintex for sale through an Estate Agent, Kwadwo Owusu also a witness in this case.

Complainant together with  the witness met accused person and they all agreed at a price of GH¢820,000.00.

Complainant made payments to accused person of which some of the monies were paid through the witness and receipt of payment issued to the complainant.

A total amount of GH¢700,000 OO was paid to the accused person.

The complainant then demanded to the documents of the said building so that he could add the remaining GH¢120,000 complete payment.

To his surprise, accused person sent him a text message that he has sold the same building to another buyer.

Complainant then demanded for his money but accused failed to give same to him Complainant then petitioned the Director-General/CID on 27th October, 202).

On 2 November, 2021, accused was arrested and in his investigation caution statement, he stated that he borrowed the said GH¢700,000,00 from the complainant but not to sell his building to him.

Accused person wes shown the receipt of payment as well as the messages scent to the complainant but he could not give any tangible reason as to why he issued the receipt and the messages Police asked accused Person to produce the original copy of the documents of the said building but he could not produce same.

Investigations at the land commission revealed that, the said land is registered in the name of one Kwadwo Adjei the same person who issued an indenture for the accused person, meanwhile investigations of DCI Microfinance Limited, Accra also indicated that, the accused person has used the original land title certificate of the building to secure several inane at the sant facility After investigation accused was charged with the offence.
