Two second-hand clothes sellers granted GHC20K bail on robbery count
Benjamin Asante aka Ballack and Alfred Dadson alias Bullshit aka Nana Konzor had been granted bail in the sum of twenty thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC20, 000.00) with two sureties who are gainfully employed.
Benjamin and Alfred who are both second hand clothes sellers were granted bail at an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour Madam Afia Owusu Appiah today.
They were put before the court for offences of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery counts in Section 23(1) and 149 of the Criminal Offences Act 1968.
The two were arrested by the Achimota Police for their involvement in an alleged robbery that occurred on July 24, 2019.
Contained in the brief facts read by the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector William Boateng the accused persons were with the two counts, as July 24, 2019 at CP Roundabout Achimota in the Greater Accra region and within the jurisdiction of the court, the two did agreed to act together with the common purpose to commit crime of robbery.
He said the complainant, one Benjamin Quansah is self-employed and lives at Bortianor also in the Accra region while Ballack (A1) and Bullshit (A2) reside at Kasoa Opeikuma and Kasoa Breku respectfully in the Central Region.
The prosecutor told the court that on the stated date above, the Achimota Police received a complaint from Mr Quansah that at about 7:45 pm, he was walking around the ACP area of the Achimota Forest reserve when the accused persons attacked him.
He said the accused persons attacked and dragged him on the pavement blocks into the forest reserve and collected his Samsung J5 premier mobile phone valued GHC800 seed and a bag containing car documents, driver’s licence cover notes and some expiry driver’s licences.
The accused persons inflicted injuries on the left thumb of the complainant in the course in the attack.
“The complainant rushed to the Achimota school police station and reported the case. On the same night police patrol team managed to arrest the accused persons few metres away from the crime scene and brought them to the station,” he said.
The complainant on seeing the accused persons, identified them to the police as his attackers.
When police visited the robbery visited the scene of the Crime, they retrieved complainant’s medicated glasses and torn silver necklace.
However, the accused persons in their caution statement denied the offence and pleaded not guilty.
The case was adjourned to July 27, 2020.
