Two charged for engaging in stealing

The Ghana Police Service is prosecuting two men and manhunting for three others for allegedly engaging in robbery spry in the Greater Accra, Central and Eastern regions.

France Kofi Amoako, first accused (A1), James Mborlecha alias Maluda (A2), and other suspects at large – Aglago alias Father, Shark and Gbeigbaa – were said to have conducted their nefarious activities at Malejor, Oyibi, Tetegu, Balewashie, Gomoa Fete and in Koforidua.

France, 38 and a tiler, and James, 23 and a driver’s mate, were arrested at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in various periods by the police.

They were arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court on nine counts of conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful entry, and stealing.

The accused persons have both pleaded not guilty to the charges and were remanded into police custody for two week.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Rosemond Anyayne pressed the charges against the accused persons before His Honour Isaac Oheneba Kuffour today.

She told the court that the Accra Regional Intelligence Directorate of the Ghana Police Service picked intelligence that France, James alias Maluda, and the suspects at large, have committed a number of robberies at Malejor, Oyibi, Tetegu, Gomoa Fete and Koforidua were planning to go on another robbery.

A team of Policemen from the Regional Intelligence Directorate were detailed to trail them to Circle, and upon that France was arrested, after which James was also grabbed later on.

Investigation revealed that the leader of the syndicate suspect Aglago alias Father at large, recruited the two accused persons, suspects Shark and Gbeigbaa to engage in robberies in the above-named location.

The syndicate snatched two Toyota Vitz taxies at Koforidua and a KIA Morning taxi at Gomoa Fete.

Their Modus Operandi is to hire the taxi and while in the course of the journey will ask the driver to stop for them to alight.

Suspect Aglago who sits behind the driver will use a rope to tie the driver’s neck. Suspect Shark on the front passenger seat will seize his mobile phone, push him out of the car and they will drive the car away.

Between 2019 to 2022, the accused persons and their accomplices broke into the room of Musah Alhassan at Tetegu made away with 65 inches Samsung Television set valued GH¢7,000.00, Microwave valued GH¢900.00, Router valued GH¢800.00, all to the tune of GH¢8,700.00.

The accused and their accomplices also entered the rooms of Ali Iddrisu at Tetegu and stole 32 inches Samsung television set valued GH¢1,500.00, and a bag of cloth valued unknown.

The syndicate also unlawfully entered the pharmacy shop of Esther Abaatu at Oyibi, and also made away with 32 inches LG television set valued GH¢2,300.00, and a Nasco 32 inches television set valued GH¢1,600.00.

They also entered a mobile money vending shop at Balewashie, where they made away with three Nokia phones each valued GH¢150.00 and cash of GH¢1,800.00. Accused persons mentioned Alhassan and Tsokosi as those who dishonestly received their booty.

Accused persons admitted the offence and confirmed the names of the suspects as their accomplices. Some of the victims have been identified and are assisting in investigations.

Efforts are in place to get the accomplices arrested. The accused persons were charged and arraigned before this court. Investigation is on ongoing.
