Tsikata pins down Same in Quayson’s trial

Tsatsu Tsikata has urged Godfred Yeboah to be cautious with his wanton display of power as the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice.

He said the same weapon or scale the minister is deploying against opponent in the political divide would be used against them in the same measure.

Tsikata, counsel for James Gyakye Quayson, made the statement today, during a submission for review on day-to-day hearing of the trial.

Dame opposed to the application but Tsikata rebutted that the A-G will one day rely on the same application when found members of the ruling party found themselves in the same circumstances.

Tsikata had consistently been hard on Dame and to an extent of nearly calling him the worst A-G ever.

He made statements in open court including in his 57 years law practice and with the number of Attorney-Generals encouraged along these, never has he seen an A-G as Dame who makes prejudicial remarks about an accused.

Tsikata was particular about Quayson’s trial, due to memories of his own trial and imprisonment in 2008 by the same ruling party.

The accused has been in a sweet and sour sauce since his election as Member of Parliament for Assin North in the Central region in 2020.

The Supreme in May ordered the expunging of his name from the Register of Parliament and organisation of refresh parliamentary election at the constituency.

Faith being at his side, Quayson won the by-election with a convincing margin on June 27. In fact he won by 57.56%.

He is being tried for owning dual citizenship at the time of his first election.

Quayson is facing charges of forgery and perjury.

The application for review of day-to-day basis trial would be ruled on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
