Staff Sergeant Awarf Sulle has told the Financial Division of the Accra High Court trying senior police and military officers for treason that he shot and killed a resident of Nsakina in the Greater Accra, during a mob attack.

Staff Sergeant Awarf, a prime witness in the trial of Dr Mac Palm and nine others, said the incident happened in 2020 at Nsakina when he went to visit him son in the area.

This, he told the court presided over by three member panel of justice- Justice Afia Serwaa Asare-Botwe, Justice Hafisata Amaleboba and Justice Stephen Oppong – when been cross-examined by E. A. Vordoagu, defence counsel of Dr Fredrick Yoa Mac Palm.

But, Mr Vordoagu challenged him that he was telling the court a lie, claiming Staff Sergeant Awarf killed the person as part of his duty of providing landguard services to both military and private individuals.

The lawyer indicated that the witness was at the community only for landguard activities but Staff Sargeant Awarf insisted that he stopped by Nsakina to visit his son.

The lawyer not convened by Staff Sergeant Awarf‘s claim demand that “so you happened to be passing by and you were mobbed and you have to defend yourself and as a result someone has to die. Is that your case?”

Mr Voegoagu added that even during the exchange of the gun fire, a bullet hits the witness’ arm and as a result, he was operated in the house for it to be removed.

Staff Sergeant Awarf insisted that he was attacked for going into the community to visit his son and there was no instance that he was operated on in his house.

He stressed that the case reported to the Amasaman Police, after which he was hospitalised at the 37 Military Hospital for two days before been released to the Police Headquarters to be process for the court.

The witness said he was charged with murder but after a year of trial, the Ajaben court released him on the count that he killed in self-defence.

Staff Sergeant Awarf also could not tell the court the number of time the case was called or attended the court but denied the accusation he is reputed as a notorious landguard.

In defence, the witness reiterated that he is not involved in land but aside his service work, he also owns a building a construction company.

Dr Mac Palm together with Donyo Kafui, Bright Alan Debrah, Johannes Zikpi, Colonel Samuel Kojo, WO II Esther Saan, Corporal Seidu Abubakar, Corporal Ali Solomon, Sylvester Akankpewu and ACP Dr. Benjamin Kwasi Agordzo are bing tried for treason offences.
