Trailer driver arrested for unlawful possession of firearm
Thirty (30) years old trailer driver, Patrick Laweh Odonkor has been arrested and charged with unlawful possession of firearm.
Odonkor was arrested with the firearm by the police in a commercial on the Accra-Anyinam Highway on September 16, 2022 at about 2:00am.
The police has put Odonkor before the Accra Circuit Court ‘2’ today on the charge but a plea of not guilty was entered for him, after his guilty with explanation.
The court presided by Adelaide Abui Keddy has admitted the accused to bail in the sum of ¢100,000 with two sureties.
The court was informed by the prosecuting officer, Chief Inspector Maxwell Ayim that the Police Patrol Unit of the Ghana Police Service appended the accused.
He narrated to the court that a member of the Highway Patrol Unit at the police headquarters, Chief Inspector Alfred Tofa is the complainant.
The prosecutor said on September 16, 2022 at about 2:00 am, the complainant was in-charge of the patrol team performing duty on the Accra-Anyinam Highway when a commercial Toyota Hiace Bus with registration No. GS 7793-21 arrived with passengers on board.
According to him, the complainant and his team in conducting a search on the occupants of the bus by way of preventing crime, and in the process found the accused person holding a black polythene bag containing one Bruni-Mud 84 foreign pistol.
He continued that during interrogation, the accused person revealed to the Police that the pistol is for his fried by name Ebenezer Kwame Oteng who left it in his room and he asked him to bring it to him in Kumasi.
Chief Inspector indicated that although the accused led Police to Kumasi but the said Ebenezer Kwame Oteng could not be found.
Afier investigation, the accused was charged with the offence and brought before this Honourable Court.
