Teachers trying to recruit teachers scam has hits the Ghana Education (GES) under the Ministry of Education.

Three teachers, Samuel Mensah Amelipko, 39, David Bacha, 45, and Daniel Ofori Boateng, 42, have been rounded up by the police and put before court.

They are alleged to have demanded and collected GH¢394,000.00 from 42 applicants on a promise to secure them job with the GES.

The charges pressed against them are conspiracy to commit crime and defrauding by false pretense before the Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges today and were granted bail in the sum of GH¢350,000.00 each and justified by two sureties who are either from GES- teaching by profession or family members on yesterday.

The court also ordered that they report to the police every Wednesday and adjourned the case to April 30, 2024.

Chief Inspector Daniel Danku narrated the case to the court that the complainant is Sumaila Owueidze, unemployed and a resident of Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region.

He said Samuel Mensah Amelipko, first accused (A1), lives at Awoshie in Accra, David Bacha (A2) lives at Asamankese in the Eastern region, and Daniel Ofori Boateng (A3) lives at Effiduase in the Ashanti region.

According to him, in the month of August 2023, Samuel communicated to the complainant that Ghana Education Service (GES) recruitment slots were available and had gotten protocol to recruit people.

During the conversation, Samuel gave full assurance and promised to make refund when the recruitment fails. Due to this representation, the complainant became convinced and organised 42 interested applicants. On August 29, 2023, Samuel demanded and collected cash in the sum of GH¢394,000.00 from the complainant.

After receiving the money on the promise to get the jobs for the complainant’s 42 applicants within a month, he failed and subsequently went into hiding.

Efforts made by the complainant to reach Samuel proved futile, therefore, she reported the matter to police.

On October 18, 2023, Samuel was arrested at Odorgonno in Accra and in his investigation cautioned statement, he admitted having collected the money from the complainant to secure jobs for his applicants but failed.

He mentioned A2 and A3 as his accomplices, and on November 10, 2023, they were arrested at Asamankese and Asante Effiduase respectively.

David in his caution statement admitted the offence and told Police that he only received a total amount of GH¢388,000.00 from Al and same was handed over to Daniel and one Reuben Bempoh for the recruitment.

Daniel in his caution statement also admitted having received the money from A1 and A2, but paid it into the Vodafone now Telecel Cash wallet numbers: 0509304338 and 0506385628 produced by Reuben Bempoh.

A3 alleged that he met Reuben met online and the later claimed he is a staff of GES at the National Headquarters Accra.

In the course of investigation, police retrieved an amount of GH¢70,000.00 from A3 and same was handed over to the complainant.Case is still under investigation.
