Police officer’s wife remanded for harming colleague
An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Samuel Bright Acquah has remanded a wife of a police officer, Charity Bimpong for attacking and harming one Mercy Nsoh, also a wife of another police officer.
The accused was said to have attacked her victim at about 2:30am while the latter was going to the market.
The attack follows a previous day’s fight, which the accused sustained injury in one of her eyes, and not satisfied with the outcome of the fist fight, she retaliated.
As a result, Charity was arrested and charged for causing harm. She has pleaded not guilty to charge and had been remanded into police custody for one week.
Narrating the facts of the case to the court, the prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Georgina Ama Agbodeka said both the complainant and accused are traders and reside at the Osu Police Barracks.
According to her, on January 2, 2023, at about 7:00pm, a fight ensued between the complainant and accused and they were separated.
This, she said did not go down well with the accused and she threatened the complainant that she will deal with her later.
True to her words, she said on January 3, 2023, at about 2:30am, while Mercy going to market, the accused attacked her.
The prosecutor explained that this happened because the accused knew the time that the complainant goes to the market to trade and, therefore laid in ambush waiting for her.
C/Ins Agbodeka told the court that the accused armed herself with a wooden plank and hid at a drinking spot known as “Feel free” near the Osu Police barracks, so that when Mercy got to her location, she will the attack.
He said the accused hits the complainant on the head with the piece of wood and she fell into a nearby gutter, then took to her heels.
A witness in this case who earlier saw the accused sitting at the said spot heard, later heard the complainant shouting for help in twi language “Obi ngymi” “Obi ngymi” and rushed to the scene.
She said before the witness got the scene, the accused had threw the board away and fled, but he was able to identified the culprit.
The prosector stated that another witnesses, who also saw the accused running away, using in front of his house, accosted her as to why she was running.
The Chief Inspector added that the accused even showed to the second her eye and stated that the complainant injured her eye the previous day when they fought and explained why she also hit her with a piece of board that dawn.
The witness then rushed to the scene and found the complainant with a swollen forehead and together with other witnesses advised her to make official complaint at the Osu Police Station.
The complainant was issued with a Police medical report form to attend hospital and on the same day, January 3, at 3:00pm, the accused was arrested to assist investigation.
The accused denied the offence in his caution statement and after investigation, she was formally charged with the offence as stated on charge sheet to appear before the court.
