Opera Square on fire
A building that house shops at the Opera Square in the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is on fire.
The fire, which gut one of the storey buildings on the Opera Square compound about 2:00 pm local time has been razed down the building completely.
The cause of the inferno is yet to be established by fire fighters.
As at the time the Ghanalynk.com visited the scene, traders occupying the building were busily salvaging their goods from being affected by the fire.
The fire also attracted several onlookers and volunteers to aid the fire fighting.
Reporting reaching the Ghanalynk.com later indicated that for over 10 hours the fire continued to consume properties worth million.
So far, eyewitness say the fire has not claimed any life but blames the Ghana Nation Fire Service, which was about 500 metres away from the scene for not doing anything appreciable to save the situation.
In an interview with the site, Mr Patrick Bessey said: “They (Fire Service) were there but can’t do nothing. It’s like the fire burnt itself out.”
The Opera Square is also within the Accra Central Business District, where majority of the traders merchandise in electronics and electrical wares.
There are also food venture and petty traders who also ply their business there.
