Okpoi-Gonno land guard leader put behind bars
A land guard leader Ila Ishmael who held a property owner Rose Aryee hostage, had been remanded two weeks by an Accra Circuit Court into lawful custody.
Ishmael s expected to reappear before the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Essandoh next month, May 10.
The facts as narrated by Inspected Eric Pobee revealed the complainant in the case is an Estate Developer and resides at Achimota, Accra.
The complainant’s mother Madam Rose Aryee is the CEO of Osamampa Estate Company Limited and has about nine (9) Acres of land lying at Okpoi-Gonno near Manet on spintex road.
The prosecutor indicated to the court that the said land has been fenced with two access gates and registered with the land commission tittle certificate No. GA 54899.
Meanwhile, the accused person, Ishmael is unemployed and resides at Abeka Lapaz.
The complainant’s mother has a contract with Corporate Protection Security (CPS), which provides security on all the properties of Osamampa Company Limited including the land at Okpoi-Gonno near Manet.
The Accused person was an employee of CPS but about a year ago, he and his land guard group captured some of the portions of the land and shared among themselves.
According to Inspector Pobee, after sharing portions of the land among themselves, they also started selling parts to other individuals without the consent of the complainant’s mother.
Madam Aryee reported the issue of the accused person’s conduct to his employers and was warned by the CEO of CPS.
The CEO of CPS also warned accused person against the practice and same was reported to Madam Aryee and subsequently being informed that Ishmael had been dismissed from the company.
The dismissal, however, was not a punitive enough but intensified the situation for the accused and his gang to continuously threaten, harass and preventing the complainant and others who have acquired to develop it.
On August 19, 2020, the accused and some of his gang went to the land and attacked the complainant and her workers on while constructing a building.
He threatened them to stop working on the land and he also took the complainant hostage which took the intervention of a team from Accra Regional Police SWAT to rescue the complainant.
