The National Democratic Congress (NDC) minority caucus in Parliament has announced a change in plans regarding their scheduled protest against the Governor and deputies of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

Initially slated for July 30, the demonstration will now take place on August 13, as confirmed in a press release by Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson.

The protest, which aims to address concerns over alleged fiscal mismanagement within the BoG, received approval from the Accra Regional Command on the designated routes for the march.

Starting from Obra Spot and concluding at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, the route will pass through key locations including Adabraka Farisco, Ridge Roundabout, National Theatre Traffic Light, High Court Complex, and Atta Mills Highway.

In the press release, Forson cited the proximity of the originally planned demonstration date to the NDC’s national campaign launch in Tamale as the reason for rescheduling under the provisions of the Public Order Act 1994 (Act 491), sections 1, 2, and 3.

This adjustment aims to ensure maximum participation in both events without compromising safety or logistical arrangements.

Central to the NDC’s grievances are concerns over what they perceive as extravagant spending on the Bank of Ghana Corporate Headquarters and undisclosed expenses related to the Governor’s personal residence project in Accra.

These financial decisions, according to the NDC, have contributed to the current financial instability of the Central Bank.

The rescheduling request has been made to allow the Accra Regional Command sufficient time to coordinate adequate police presence to ensure the safety and security of all participants during the demonstration.

The NDC minority caucus remains steadfast in its commitment to holding accountable the leadership of the Bank of Ghana, emphasizing transparency and responsible fiscal management as crucial to the country’s economic stability.
