MTN marks Val’s Day with blood donation
MTN Ghana, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), has targeted to collect over 6000 pints of blood to support the National Blood Service of Ghana in respect of the Valentine Day’s celebrations.
The gesture, was to demonstration love and affection through giving back to society in a very special way.
Nii Adotey Mingle, General Manager in charge of the Northern Business sector of MTN, at the Prempeh College, explained that the telecommunications company chose to this august occasion to show love tby organising blood donation to support those in dire need of blood transfusion.
According to him, Valentine Day symbolises love and there is nothing one can do to express love than willingly and voluntarily donate blood.
He said MTN Ghana has targeted to collect 6000 units of blood for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) this year and had promised to even do better by expanding the numbers 7000.
The blood donation exercise started in the 2011, and had led to a total collection of 26,000 units of blood. This year’s exercise is likely to increase the number of units of blood collected to over 30,000.
Apart from the Prempeh College, MTN organised the exercise also at 22 centres across the country, some of them incit include Serwaah Nyarko Senior High School and Kumasi High School in the Ashanti region.
Selection of the centres base on individuals willingness to donate.
