The minority group in Parliament have taken a strong stance against the trial of three of it’s members but level of each support is distinct.

The MPs have picked and chosen, which of these MPs -James Gyakye Quayson, Cassiel Ato Forson and Collins Dauda – most deserve their ultimate support over the other.

Among the three, Collins Dauda became the black sheep, whose court was attended by just a handful of his colleagues on Monday.

However, Quayson and Forson’s trial had the court galleries overflow with people, majority being the MPs.

The courtrooms, where Quayson and Forson’s trials were held was full to capacity and some of the MPs and their mother political party National Democratic Party executives were forced to stand outside.

Several meanings could be read into the MPs action because one, Parliament does not sit on Mondays, enhance it would be worthless to follow Collins on such a day.

Secondly, they want to frustrate the government business by boycotting sitting in favour of their embattled colleagues facing criminal charges.

Thirdly and the most difficult to point out, is the shedding of their responsibility as law maker to stampede a legal process.

Lastly, a performance of an oversight duty of how the legal system is operating to benefit the citizens whom have entrusted their powers in them.

However, the minority made it clear that they will boycott sitting any day and time that any of their members is being dragged to court.

According to them, the trials are nothing but a political witch hunt by the government to weaken their numbers in parliament.

So far, some minority member including leader Haruna Iddrisu and whip, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak are yet to prove their commitment to the call.

Collins is facing $200 million Saglemi housing project, Ato Forson for €2.37 million ambulance contract, and Gyakye Quayson for forgery and perjury.

The minority decision follows the court granting the prayer of the Attorney-General for day-to-day trial of Gyakye Quayson.

So far, the process for day-to-day hearing of Quayson’s case had been severely been frustrated by his lawyers with numerous applications.
