Man robbed off GH¢900k on Okada
An Okada operator aged 32 years, George Ayitey Mensah, and a businessman, Hakeem Seini, aged 27, are alleged to have been robbed, while transporting off GH¢900, 000.00.
The motor and pillion riders were allegedly robbed just after the Kawukudi traffic light, going into the Maamobi community.
Even though they alleged to be victims of robbery at a gun point, police investigation has proven otherwise.
George and Hakeem have been arrested and charged for conspiracy to commit a crime to wit robbery and robbery.
The accused persons have pleaded not guilty to the offences when brought before the court presided over by Samuel Bright Acquah two days ago.
Superintendent Augustine Yirenkyi, prosecutor, told informed the court that on January 3 2023, at about 2:00pm local time, the Nima Divisional Patrol team during their usual Patrol duties within Maamobi community chanced on group of people on the Mallam Addo Mosque road.
He added that the police team was informed of a robbery that has just occurred, and as a result, they moved onto the main Nima-Maamobi highway where the victims were identified as George Ayitey Mensah, aged 32 an Okada rider and Hakeem Seini, aged 27, businessman and the Pillion rider.
Per Hakeem Seini’s narration, he was transporting an amount of GH¢900,000.00 from Rawlings Circle to Maamobi, and he contracted George Ayitey Mensah, the Okada rider to convey him together with the said money to the stated destination.
Before getting to where they were robbed, the two rode to the National Theatre area, then to Ridge Hospital area and onto the Kanda highway.
So when they got to the Kawukudi traffic light, turned and were about entering Maamobi community, two young men on unregistered motorbike wearing full face helmet, all armed with pistol crossed them on the Mallam Addo Mosque road, fired some shots and robbed them of the said amount.
Hakeem Seini allegedly told the police the money involved belonged to him, but turned out that he is not the lawful owner.
The police has established that the cash involved in the robbery was also from one Ibrahim Musah.
It was narrated to the court that George Ayitey Mensah was captured in a CCTV footage signaling the robbers to cross him, a few meters to the scene of crime.
Additionally, during interrogation, the accused persons contradicted themselves.
The prosecutor added that this, therefore, put them on a very high suspicion that they and the robbers, now at large, conspired to commit the crime.
He informed the court that case still under investigation.
