Man jailed for stealing from Association Int. School
An Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Afia Owusuaa Appiah, has jailed a 27 years unemployed man, Michael Awitor for stealing items worth US$10,000.00 from the Association International School at the Airport Residential area in Accra.
The court sentenced him yesterday upon his own plea of guilty.
Others he appeared before the court with, Abdul Wahab Isahaku, 50 and a scrap dealer, and Godstime Joseph Edoho and unemployed, pleaded not guilty to abetment to commit a crime.
Abdul and Godstime have been remanded into lawful custody to reappear before the court on September 19, 2023.
The facts of the case as read to the court by Inspector Wisdom Alorwu are that the Complainant, Esther Coleman is the Personal Assistant to the head of Association International School, Airport Residential Area.
He said the convict, Abdul Wahab Issahaku as well as Godstime Joseph Edoho, a Nigerian, all live at Achimota
According to him, in the early part of the year, 2023, the police gathered information that Abdul had recruited Godstime and the convict, and housed them at Achimota, fed and clothes them for the purposes of stealing and bringing the booty to him.
Thus, whenever, the convict embarked on any stealing expedition, he brings the booty to Godstime to keep and informs Abdul.
Based on the information, the Police laid surveillance on the activities of the accused persons.
On February 20, the complainant went to work and detected that the office of the head of the school was broken into and ransacked.
He detected that a MacBook Air laptop computer valued US$2000.00 and MacBook Pro laptop computer valued US$3000.00, used iPhone plus charger, Ti 85 calculator, and two Casio scientific Calculators were stolen.
Other items found to been stolen were two iPhone chargers, one portable USD fan with inbuilt, one power Bank, 12 TB Western digital HDD, new power bank with charger and one hand bag, all valued at UD$10, 000.00.
She reported the incident to the Airport Police for investigation.
Following the information the police arrested the convict and in his investigation cautioned statement, confessed to the offence and led the Police to arrest the other accused persons.
They also allegedly admitted the crime and Abdul stated that he handed over all the exhibits to his co-financier, one Asare.
He led the Police to the house of the said Asare at Achimota but before the Police got there he had escaped.
It was after investigation, the accused persons were arraigned on the charges before the court.
