Man, 23, standing trial for alleged narcotic drugs offences

Samuel Doe alias Rasta, 23 and unemployed, is standing trial before an Accra Circuit for alleged possession of narcotic drugs.

The accused was found with narcotic drugs such as cocaine, heroin and cannabis.

He has, therefore, been slapped with one count of conspiracy to commit crime and three counts  unlawful control of narcotic drugs.

Samuel told the court that he is innocent of the charges levelled against him before the court presided over by His Honour Samuel Bright Acquah.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Isaac Babayi, told the court that the accused was arrested at Labadi, in the Greater Accra Region with 67 silver foil wraps of cocaine with net weight of 3.3420, and 21 gold foil and three silver foil wraps of Heroin with net weight of 4.6353 and 0.4087 grams respectively for trafficking, without lawful authority. 

CI Babayi further added that a white paper wraps of cannabis with net weight of 13.80 grams was also retrieved from the accused, which also met for trafficking.He told the court that the complainants in the case are police officers stationed at the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of CID Headquarters, Accra.

According to him, the  accused person is unemployed and a resident of Labadi Maami, Accra.

The court was informed that on October 14, 2022, about 10:30 am, the complainants acted upon intelligence gathered and arrested the accused person at a narcotic drugs peddling base at Labadi, Accra. 

He said a search conducted on the accused led to the recovery of the 67 silver foil wraps of rocky whitish substance, 21 gold foil wraps of brownish powdery substance, 19 white paper wraps of dried plant material and three gold foil wraps of brownish powdery substance suspected to be narcotics drugs.

 In his investigation caution statement, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime and mentioned a certain man with nicked name “Kapo or Sweety” of Labadi Maame, as his source of supply. 

However, the accused failed to cooperate with police to apprehend his supplier.

The court heard that forensic examination conducted on the exhibits proved that they tested be positive for Cocaine with net weight of 3.3420 grams, Heroin with net weight of 4.6353 and 0.4087 grams respectively and Cannabis with net weight of 13.80 grams. 

CI Babayi added that based on the strength of the test report, the accused  was charged with the offence disclosed in the charged sheet.
