Kennedy Agyapong’s doctor to appear before court
The Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong failed to appear before an Accra Divisional High that is trying him on contempt charges.
His lawyers told the court that his failure not to appear before it was not deliberate but as a result of ill health conditions suffered as a result of post Covid-19 complications.
The Court presided over by Justice Amos Wintah Wuni on that note, did not hesitant to summon the medical officer in question, Dr. Ken Addo of Holy Trinity Medical Centre/Spa and Health Farm to appear before him on Thursday Oct 1, 2020, to speak to the medical excuse duty of the lawmaker.
His Lordship Justice Wuni said: “We have to create a country for ourselves because the way medical excuse duties are being written somebody has to speak about it.”
Since Mr Agyapong lead defence counsel Kwame Gyan told the court that after the previous
Sitting, in which it was agreed that proceedings continued today, the lawmaker unfortunately suffered from complications from the post COVID-19 conditions that he suffered a month ago.
And to prove this as a truth statement, he said the legal team arranged for him to seek medical support and the diagnosis of the doctor who treated him for the Covid-19, adding “we have [respectfully] attached the medical report and a cover letter to the court for its favourable consideration.”
Mr Gyan informed the court that it was not out of disrespect or wilful conduct that Kennedy chose not to appear before the judge.
“The court’s records would reflect that since the service of the court order via substitution the applicant has consistently been in court ahead of time. This is our prayer and we beseech you to allow us an adjournment so we can get the defendant restored to a clean bill of health,” he prayed.
Justice Wuni heard the prayer and adjourned hearing to October 12, 2020.
