An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Evelyn Asamoah has given one Agbemabiess Sabastine bail in the sum of GHC70, 000  with two sureties to be justified for impersonating the Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta.

21 year-old Agbemabiess was arraigned before the court allegedly pretending to be a public officer and engaging in charlatanic advertisement, which are contrary the criminal offences Act 1960 (Act 29) and the electronic transaction Act 2008 (Act 772).

The court was told by Detective Sergeant Frederick Sarpong on Monday that Agbemabiess is unemployed and the complainant in this case is the Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta.

According to D/SGT Sarpong, during May 2021 Mr Ofori Atta attention was drawn to several fake social media accounts bearing his images and names soliciting for persons interested in joining the Ghana Armed Forces to contact him on phone number 0593066104 at a fee.

He said Mr Ofori Atta then made a complaint to Police and investigations led to his house and arrested him. Search conducted in his room revealed a TECNO mobile phone containing the SIM Card with the number 0593066104 and another ITEL mobile phone.

“Upon interrogation, the accused admitted being the owner of the mobile phones with its SIM Cards and having used the photographs and name of the complainant to create fake Facebook account to subtly deceive the public to give out monies to him under the pretence of recruiting them into the Ghana Armed Forces,” he added.
