Huawei staff allegedly dupes car dealer
Frank Asirifi, aged 31 years and transport officer at Huawei Company Limited at Continents in Accra, is alleged to have defrauded a car dealer, Awudu Musah of GH¢380,000.
Asirifi (accused) allegedly succeeded in parting away with the cash by luring Mr Musah (complainant) that he can secure auction vehicles for him within six months.
The conversation allegedly took place somewhere in the year 2018, and at the time, the accused and the complainant were friends.
Thus, the accused contacted Musah with the promise that he could help him purchase auction vehicles from the Huawei Company Limited where he works.
In that regard, the accused managed to convince the complainant and parted with the cash of GH¢380,000.00 but failed to honour his promise and went into hiding.
Efforts made by the complainant to get the accused for his money failed.
Fortunately, on September 9, 2022, the complainant spotted the accused at Kwame Nkrumah Circle near Tip Toe Lane and with the help of some friends, he had him arrested and handed over to the Police.
The accused admitted the offence in his investigation cautioned statement, and pleaded for some time to resolve the matter with the complainant.
The police charged Asirifi with the offence, defrauding by false pretences and put before an Accra Circuit Court yesterday.
Asirifi, however, pleaded not guilty to the charged and the court presided over by Samuel Bright Acquah granted him bail in the sum of GH¢400,000 with two sureties.
The court ordered that all the sureties should be Ghanaian citizens and should be residents within the jurisdiction of the court.
One of the sureties must be a government worker who earns not less than GH1,500.00 a month while the other must have a fixed place of abide and a permanent place of doing business.
The case was presented to the court inspector Wisdom Alorwu. The case was adjourned to September 27.
