Health Manager defrauded off GHS30K

The Principal Administrative Manger Ghana of Health Service in Kumasi of the Ashanti Region, Joseph Owusu Banahehe has allegedly been defrauded of GH₵30,000.00 in an attempt to buy a car advertised on online marketing platform, Tonaton.com.

The Principal Manager was defrauded by one Mary Abena Serwaa Afedzi (A1) and her accomplices –Nana (A2) and Boadi (A3) – who are currently at large.   

Thus, on January 26, 2020, the complainant saw an advisement of an unregistered Toyota Corolla Saloon car on sale on Tonaton.com.

An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Mrs Ellen Afei Ayeh was told that Mr Banahene contacted Nana and a price of GHC34, 000.00 was agreed by both of them.

One January 27, 202, the complainant together with witnesses, Angela Gyasi-Nsiah and Patrick Kofi Asamoah, proceeded to Accra from Kumasi to buy the car.

On reaching Accra, the complainant called Nana and he directed them to go Achimota Charcoal Station to inspect the car.

The complainant and the witness proceeded to the said location and met A3 with the car for the inspection to be conducted on the car.

However, after inspection, the A2 directed the complainant to go with A3 to Ghana institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) to make the payment to his wife, Mary Abena Serwaa Afedzi.

The complainant together with the witness and Boadi boarded car to GIMPA campus and met Mary in the presence of the witness.

After the payment the complainant was given a key to the by Boadi but the car was nowhere to be found at it parking place.

Mr Banahene rushed to back to gather some explanation from Mary but to his surprise, A1 too has vanished.

The complainant reported the case to the Auto Theft Unit of the CID Headquarters on January 27, 2020 and on May 5, 2020, A1 was arrested.

Mary confirmed to police as well as admitting to the fact that she received GH₵30,000 from the complainant on the instruction of Nana.
