What was supposed to be the luckiest moment or a jackpot for a 23 year-old head porter, Isaac Tetteh who found US$18, 300.00 in a dustbin, has rather landed him in trouble.

Isaac was said to have found the hard currency in a trash can in front of a boutique owned by a businessman at Tudu in Accra.

The head porter who perhaps counted himself as one of the luckiest persons on planet on September 13, 2022, is now being hunt for his find.

Thus, the supposed owner of the cash is in court demanding for prosecution and retrieval of his money from the head porter.

The state has pressed criminal charges against the head porter and two others who the money was later channelled to them.

Prosecuting the case is the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Augustine Yirenkyi who narrated to the court that the busineman had US$18, 300.00 in a white envelope kept in his shop.

He said the complainant’s sales person while cleaning the shop, swept among other things the white envelope containing the money and trashed it in a bin.

DSP Yirenkyi indicated that the complainant realized the missing money the following day and went to searched for it in the bin but was not there.

However, he said the complainant noted from footages from CCTV cameras fixed in front of the shop that it was Isaac who came for the money.

He then caused the arrest of the head porter but the latter claimed that the envelope he took was empty.

Meanwhile, a witness in the case in a contrary statement said she was at the Aflao lorry station when the head porter brought a white envelope to a driver and 30 years old, Daniel Adogo for safekeeping.

Although Adogo allegedly confessed to the police having received something of that nature from the head porter, he also claimed he gave it to a 38-year old black market dealer, Yaw David Kuenyedzi at Afloa to determine what currency it was.

The investigation team traced Yaw to Aflao and had him arrested.

Interestingly, Yaw also admitted having received the money but said the money was Liberian dollars, and were 42 in number.

Isaac has, therefore, been charged with stealing while the others had been accused of abetment of crime.

The presided over by Samuel Bright Acquah couldn’t take their plea on Monday because it found the charges problematic.

It has, however, granted the accused persons bail in the sum GH¢20,000 each, with a common surety who resides in the jurisdiction of the court.

The case has been adjourned to October 10, 2022.
