With almost half of Ghana’s neighbour to northern, Burkina Faso being ransacked by insurgency groups, has created a condition for former Gold Coast to beef up its defence system to ensure that citizens are safe, says the Minister for Defence Dominic Nitiwul.

To guarantee citizens safety against the looming threat of insurgency, he said “what the government has done, is to provide the Armed Forces with resources to establish 15 Forward Operating bases, where we will build military camps in some selected towns up north to be able us to house military people and give them enough equipment and ammunitions an weapons for them to protect us in that field.”

According to him, the base will be established across the Oti region through to the Northern region to the North-East, Upper West region and Upper East region back to bono and Savannah region.

With this, the whole of the northern part of the country is going to be protected.

Speaking to journalists after a momentous Land Combat Fire Power Demonstration organised for Students of Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College on Friday, Mr Nitiwul said: “the Ghana Government is providing the Armed Forces with resources to protect us from, especially where threat is coming from, countries up north that are largely under threat.”

He underscored the stimulation exercise as important demonstration tell a potential enemy within and outside the country that the Ghana Armed Forces is every ready to protect the people when the need arises.

And, secondly, to show that they have the ability to protect the nation from being overrun by nonentities.

Mr Nitiwul pointed out that “When you have a very strong armed forces who are well motivated, [and] well trained, then nation will begin to have vast investment because nobody put money in a country where they know that your Armed Forces can easily be run over.”

This, he stressed: “Likely for us, we have a very strong, disciplined and professional Armed forces.  And they will do everything to ensure Ghana is protected and this a very useful exercise.
