Girl fined ¢2,400 for hiding ganja in food for boyfriend in cell
Freda Ibrahim, 21 and waitress, has severely been punished for devising a strategy to serve cannabis to her boyfriend, Gyamfi George who had been caged for robbery at the Osu Police Station cells.
Freda was punished to pay fine of 200 penalty units (GHC2,400) or in default of six months imprisonment.
The 21-year old was sentenced by the Accra Circuit Court presided over by Susana Eduful last week after she was found guilty of the crime, unlawful possession of narcotic drug.
Subsequent to her sentence, the prosecuting officer Chief Inspector C. Baah told the court that the police is the complainant in the case.
He told the Court that before food is served to any inmate by a member of the public, the station would orderly take the food to examine before handing it over to the suspects in the cells.
The prosecutor added that it was during one of this process that Freda’s cover was blown up.
According to him, the officers on duty on that fateful day found three wrapped dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in a black polythene bag and concealed in Waakye.
The prosecutor added that the accused was immediately arrested by the police officers on duty at the Charge Office.
C/Inspt Baah stated that officers immediately informed the Station Officer Inspector Rockson Dogbe.
He said during interrogation, Freda said a friend of her boyfriend brought the food for her to be given to be given George in cells.
“However, she failed to lead Police to arrest the said James. Several attempts by Police for accused and the one in cells to show the whereabouts of James failed,” he added. “They also failed to assist Police with the contact number of the alleged James.
“After investigation, accused was charged with the offence to appear before this honourable Court. Meanwhile, the exhibit has been forwarded to the Police Forensic Laboratory for examination and report.”
