Ghana Navy arrest 6 & seizes 81 sacks of suspected wee

The Ada Foah Detachment of the Ghana Navy Riverine Command for the second time has arrested suspected narcotic drugs being transported.

The Navy impounded 81 sacks of suspected marijuana and apprehended 6 suspects in the process on Monday, December 25, 2023 at about 8pm.

The arrest was based on intelligence led operation, which was conducted to prevent the possible movement of the substances from its source on land.

Contained in a press release issued on December 27, and signed by Lieutenant Colonel A. Marteye, Director General Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the suspected narcotics were being loaded at a dilapidated warehouse at the Ghana Highways Authority premises in Ada along the banks of the Volta Lake.

The Team proceeded the location and arrested the 6 suspects believed to be involved.

With the support of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and Ghana Police, the suspects and confiscated exhibits were transported to the NACOC Headquarters in Accra for further investigation and necessary action.

The Ghana Navy assured the general public of its unwavering commitment to preventing illegal narcotics trade in the country’s maritime domain that have direct impact on national security.

The public was also encouraged to volunteer information that will aid the success of military and joint security operations on the Volta Lake in particular and the entire country.
